LEADERSHIP TRAINING
REAL Experience: Rams Engaging in Active Leadership
Purpose
Colorado State University is committed to developing excellent and effective leaders that will have an impact on our society.
The Rams Engaging in Active Leadership (REAL) Certificate program is designed to fulfill CSU’s commitment to our student body.
The REAL Experience allows participants to advance their own knowledge with regard to effective, intellectual, and cultural leadership. In addition, this co-curricular certificate program will also prepare and develop participants to be more productive thinkers and to become more civically engaged.
The REAL Experience is offered through the completion of various workshops, levels, and certificates. This experience is tailored to meet the interests, needs, and goals of each participant.
REAL provides all interested CSU students with an accessible opportunity to develop and enhance a personal philosophy of leadership that includes an understanding of self, groups, and their community.
REAL offers various opportunities for students to reflect upon and develop attitudes, knowledge, and skills related to ethical leadership development and practices.
Basic Logistics
REAL provides students a drop-in chance to attend leadership opportunities sponsored by SLiCE. Students can either choose to participate and earn certificates in every level and interest or can participate by choosing to attend a single workshop.
The SLiCE office partnered with other entities across the CSU campus will offer approximately forty (40) workshops every semester. These workshops will be composed of sessions from all levels within the REAL Experience. Each semester, these workshops will vary offering all participants a multitude of options throughout their involvement with the REAL Experience and their time at CSU.
Participants can complete up to four levels of various certificates.
Level I focuses on the foundations of personal leadership and each participant will receive the Personal Foundation of Leadership Certificate.
Level II focuses on the application of skills to various experiences and each participant will receive the Leadership Skills and Professional Enhancement Certificate.
Level III focuses on the development of specific interest areas, which include Social Justice, Community Engagement, Organizational Leadership, and Outdoor Adventure/Environmental Justice.
Level IV focuses on the culmination of your experience through the REAL Experience and your time at CSU.
Additionally, participants must complete documented volunteer experience and a reflection session in addition to workshop attendance to fulfill the requirements to earn a certificate.
